Boston Office Move
Written by Adam Jones — February 8, 2011

Last week I was in Boston helping with the move of the SimulTrans office from one office to another.

About a year ago SimulTrans bought an office building in Boston to serve as the permanent home for our Boston outpost.  After several months of renovations we moved to a temporary space on the first floor of the building awaiting the completion of our beautiful office being constructed on the second floor. We expected to move upstairs about one month later. That was five months ago.

We maintained hope that the construction timeline would stick to the schedule as reliably as one of the localization projects we manage do. It didn't. The delays are more a result of Boston's thorough permit and inspection process than the construction itself. Our space is about 80% complete but we cannot finish the remodeling or move in until we pass another city approval hurdle. We are confident the city officials will work with us to collaboratively finish the work, but need to wait for the green light.

Tired of the windowless dungeon where SimulTrans spent the fall, we decided to lease temporary space in another nearby office building. We moved into that location last week and are enjoying windows filled with sunlight (particularly exciting after a week of snow), more space for our ever-growing team, and a stronger telecommunications and network infrastructure.

With an average of three hours of sleep per night during the move, I am happy to be writing this blog entry while on a flight home. While I am excited about our new temporary office, I am even more excited about the new non-temporary members of our team whom I met during my visit to Boston.
